This site is dedicated to the memory of Robert Kay.

Robert known as Bob or Rab to some Down to earth, love of nature, wonderful dad, fantastic baker and chef. Following an almost fatal car accident . 5yr later contracted Bacterial Meningitis nearly 31 yrs ago. Bob was such a character, fun to be with by those who knew him and passionate about his fishing, fast cars and love of country music. Dad was struck down with Bacterial Meningitis just days prior to my mum's return from a visit to Essex, complaining to a shop owner/friend that he felt like he had flu. His symptoms continued and one Sunday morning he didnt get up. My mum decided to keep checking on him. Then a neighbour called round, she could see my dad was standing delirious at the top of the stairs and allerted my mum. My poor dad had been trying to reach the bathroom. Vomiting followed and the G.P. called out who later diagnosed gastric enteritis and prescribed medication. A 2nd home visit was needed which followed in an emergency admission to Cameron-Brig hospital in Windygates Fife. That eveing following my cousins baptism I received the news that my dad was gravely ill with B.M. and was given 48hr to live. After family and friends tirelessly praying he would live, my prayers were soon answered and he survived but was left brain damaged and paralyzed for 10yrs. My wonderful minister, now deceased ran my mum, friend and i over to Edinburgh Royal infirmary where dad was transferred to for a lumber puncture as the hospital in windygates hadn't the facillities to carry out the proceedure. Memories of dad, head shaved, tube coming out of skull, wires and grey fluid still vivid in my memory. Days, weeks followed and no responce, then finally dad came out of his coma. Plans were made to transfer dad back to Cameron Brig hospital, his only way of communicating were four words, mum, nurse, fag and the "F" word! We (mum & I) finally coped for six months nursing dad at home with a limited social care package. It was after dads six months stay at home that mum realised home wasnt the best place for dad and plans were made for his admission back to Cameron Brig where he stayed for for four yrs, the accomodation was intended only for infections diseases patients and unbeknown to family plans were being made to have my dad transferred to a new state of the art hospital in Glenrothes, Fife where dad spent his final six yrs wonderfully nursed by dedicated staff. The memories continue and dads 21st anniversary of his death is 14th June, 2010. All donations gratefully recieved in his memory.
